Airbnb's commitment to diversity
Stories, thoughts and insights on people, culture and startups.
Last month we wrote about Airbnb’s thoughtful approach to layoffs. Sad news, but we particularly appreciated the level of care the company put into the offboarding process (based on a mixture of principles, values and future business plans).
This week Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky, made another announcement that didn’t pass unnoticed (at least for us) – sharing what the company is doing to support diversity.
Airbnb is a truly global company on a mission to help create a world where you can belong anywhere and where people can live in a place, instead of just traveling to it. This makes the experiences they’re creating for their customers more human and less transactional, so it comes with no surprise that they embrace these values internally.
The highlights of their commitments are the following:
20% of their Board and Executive Team will be people of colour by end of 2021;
Adjust their recruitment and employee retention goals;
A clear path and plan for teams to meet their diversity goals;

They also announced earlier this week a partnership with the organisation Color of Change aimed at fighting discrimination on their platform. You can learn more about this initiative here →
Shout out of the week
Colorintech is a nonprofit organisation started with the belief that a more inclusive tech industry is better for products, innovation, employees and leads to a larger generational impact when it comes to wealth creation and closing opportunity gaps.
Their mission is simple: to make Europe the most inclusive tech hub in the world. They are doing this by building programs that create access to some of the world’s most innovative companies (this Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and more) for ethnic minorities.
If you’re not familiar with Colorintech, you should definitely check them out.
