Supporting Your Team After The Election, Building Teams, Peakon DE&I Report, Humaans product update, we're hiring!
Stories, thoughts and insights on people, culture and startups.
2020 is yet to be over and it keeps delivering across multiple fronts. This week was surely all about the US Election and the lockdown that kicked off again across multiple regions. Let’s jump straight into this week’s stories.
Supporting your team after the Election
Bob Feldman in a piece for Harvard Business Review recently wrote that the workplace is “one of the few remaining spaces where citizens routinely engage with others who come from diverse backgrounds and hold different viewpoints.” The 2020 Election created a significant amount of stress for many. Bob says that mental health is decidedly a bipartisan issue. For better or for worse, it doesn’t discriminate based on your political beliefs. Consistent behaviour by managers and leaders are key to shaping company culture and enabling everyone to feel supported as the election plays out. Here are five ways to support your team.
On team building
The new Lattice All Hands podcast is probably my favourite show on people, culture, and all things workplace related. In the latest episode, the host, Katelin Holloway talks with Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios and author of the bestselling book Creativity Inc., about what to look for when building a team, how power structures and authority can complicate the feedback process, and why there are no superstars in an organisation. Surely an episode worth checking out.
On Diversity & Inclusion
Peakon (the company behind the popular employee success platform) shared their Q4 DE&I report. We love seeing companies being intentional about promoting diversity and open with their approach. Sheree Atcheson (their Global Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) also shared a few week ago in this article how Peakon is building a more diverse and inclusive community to drive business impact.
